Update on my training cycle for the Ironman
I thought I'd throw an update in here for those of you following my training going into the Ironman. First of all, thank you to everyone that has been following my log and asking me questions. I really appreciate all the feedback, and the chance to help you guys and gals out. Keep the questions coming, thats what I'm here for.
Going into this meet I called on my good friend Brain Carroll to set up my training. As many of you know I've had a great deal of success working with Brian in the past. I'm looking forward to having more of that success in the coming months. I want to touch on something here. Having someone set up your training should not be above anyone. It doesn't matter if you squat 200 lbs, or 1000 lbs. Having some accountability and someone to help you address the things that need work is key. This is exactly what Brian has always done for me and others that he works with. The results of this speak for themselves.
Since my pec injury I haven't been cutting to 220. Its not that I couldn't, my BW has been exactly where I always cut from (234 ish.) I just haven't seen the need to do so, as I wouldn't be competitve with anyone at the pro level. Well, now I have something to train for. A certain lifter called me out to lift against him at the Ironman in the 242's. I'm open to any challenge, so even though I haven't benched anything over 315 since the injury, I took him up. So, for this meet I'll be pushing my BW up as high as I can to come in at a full 242. Right now I'm up to 240 in the morning, on an empty stomach. I'm going to continue to push this as much as I can with primarily clean foods, all the way to the Ironman. I'll be coming in bigger and stronger than ever. Even though I'll still be a couple hundred lbs under my best benches, I'm going to give my challenger a run for his money. If he slips up, he will lose, bet on that.
Aside from the BW, my body is feeling pretty good. I do have a tight/sore right adductor, but its improving daily. I also have some severe tightness in my glutes that my chiropractor has been on my ass about (no pun intended.) I'll be addressing this on my off days with rolling and stretching. I'm going to get some more info and video's of this, and my lifting up in the weeks to come.
Keep an eye out, and keep the feedback coming.
