Bash on the Beach

We had a great time yesterday at the Bash on the Beach strongman contest in Atlantic City. The Iron Sport guys and gals were out in force and out of our five athletes we came home with two first place ties and a second place in the women’s class. It was a pretty cool venue for a strongman contest, right on one of the most famous boardwalks in the world right in front of a bunch of major casinos. I arrived early and put a major hurting on the breakfast buffet at Ceaser’s before the show. I even went down onto the beach! Just imagine, Stevey P on the beach! As good as I look in a speedo I never go to the freaking beach. I live ninety minutes from the Atlantic and haven’t seen in since I was a teenager.

Today’s training turned out to be a shit show, we were just getting warmed up to bench heavy with heavy chain weight and my one shoulder was really grinding bad. I decided to be smart and not damage it for real, I just ended up rolling it out on a lacrosse ball, doing some light dumbbell benches and hit the elliptical for 40 minutes. That just pisses me off when I am ready to train heavy and my body just gives out.

Since an article about my gym appeared in Muscle and Fitness magazine the phone has been ringing off the hook and the emails are really flowing in. What I didn’t expect was letters from prison. I have gotten three of them so far. They all want me to write them workouts, but then they tell me their limited equipment and nutritional nightmares. As busy as am right now I really want to help these guys. I’ll have to think of something I can do for them. After all, I am now the Johnny Cash of strength training.
